Oakland University’s Kresge Library seeks an innovative, collaborative, and
service-oriented individual to join us as an Assistant Professor, Archives
and Special Collections Librarian to sustain our university archives and
care for our special collections. Successful applicants for this position
will possess a strong commitment to teaching, learning, and research
support and will demonstrate knowledge of archives management and special
collections maintenance. This position is an important liaison to community
partners and donors. Candidates must demonstrate experience with or a
commitment to diversity and inclusion.
Responsibilities include:
- Outreach to university offices, alumni, and the local community in
support of the mission of OU Archives and Special Collections (ASC) and
University Libraries
- Facilitating the care and management of ASC materials, including but
not limited to their accessioning, processing, preservation, storage, and
deaccessioning
- Collection development of primary-source donations and acquisitions
relating to the history and function of the university
- Arranging, describing, and enhancing the discoverability of ASC
collections using ArchivesSpace and other methods
- Developing and communicating policies for both ASC and the management
of University records
- Planning and facilitating instruction using archival collections
- Leading the planning, coordination, and maintenance of ASC exhibits,
both physical and online
- Participating in the library’s faculty liaison program in support of
other university academic units
- Contributing to broader scholarly conversations through publications
and presentations
- Participating in library, university, and professional service
activities
Minimum qualifications:
- Master of Library Science degree or equivalent from an ALA-accredited
program.
- Experience with archives management
This is a tenure-track faculty position with an eight-month schedule;
attainment of tenure is dependent upon job performance, scholarship, and
service. Salary will be determined by credentials and experience. Oakland
University offers excellent fringe benefits including TIAA/CREF retirement
plans.
