Temporary Applied Sciences Librarian

The University Libraries at Western Michigan University seeks candidates for a temporary Applied Sciences Liaison Librarian position. (July 2025 through June 2026)
Western Michigan University (WMU) is seeking an applied sciences liaison librarian to fill a 40-hour a week, temporary position in the WMU Libraries' Instruction and Outreach Department. The departments covered by this position include departments in the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences (Chemical and Paper Engineering; Civil and Construction Engineering; Computer Science; Electrical and Computer Engineering; Engineering Design, Manufacturing and Management Systems; Industrial and Entrepreneurial Engineering and Engineering Management; Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering) and the College of Aviation. New and recent MLIS/MIS graduates are welcome and encouraged to apply.

Hourly rate of $32.
Hours, normally Monday through Friday 8 am - 5 pm, some evening and weekend hours may be required.
The position is a fiscal year, temporary staff appointment and will be based on Western Michigan University's main campus in Kalamazoo, MI.
The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching has placed WMU among the 97 public institutions in the nation designated as research universities with "High Research Spending and Doctorate Production."

Responsibilities:
* Planning, teaching, and assessing information literacy instruction sessions in the assigned liaison areas (engineering, aviation), using various instructional modalities (in-person, synchronous online, asynchronous online, hybrid) as appropriate.
* Consulting with classroom faculty on information-literacy related assignment design and content-related library collections.
* Meeting with library users for individual reference consultations, which includes maintaining an open online calendar for scheduling consultations.
* Providing online reference via email and LibChat.
* Participating in collections management activities, such as content-specific acquisitions recommendations and deselection projects.
* Designing and updating LibGuides, online tutorials, and other online learning objects to support the curriculum in the assigned liaison areas.
* Promoting library resources and services to the assigned liaison departments via multiple communication channels, including attending liaison area department and chairs' meetings as needed.
* Participating in library engagement events and initiatives.
* Supporting colleagues with high teaching loads as needed and as available.
Minimum Qualifications:
* A master's degree from a graduate program accredited by the American Library Association (ALA) or international equivalent as defined by ALA.
* Familiarity with common library instruction tools and resources, such as discovery tools, databases, LibGuides, teaching and learning tools (such as Blackboard or D2L), assessment software, and citation managers.
* Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
* A degree in an applied or natural sciences field of study (biology, chemistry, computer science, engineering, geology, physics, mathematics, medicine, statistics).
* Familiarity with STEM databases.
* Familiarity with and experience conducting systematic reviews and scoping reviews.
* Experience working with academic research data.
* Experience working in an academic library or higher education environment.
* Instructional or course design experience.
* Experience working with diverse populations.
