Hello Michigan library land,
I'm reaching out to gather some advice and general information about how other libraries manage their video game collections, particularly in relation to loss prevention.
At JDL, we've unfortunately seen an increase in both the theft of video games directly from our shelves and situations where games are checked out and never returned - often because they've been resold.
I'd love to hear how your library handles this. Specifically:
* What theft deterrents do you have in place?
* Do you keep game discs behind the desk and display empty cases on the shelves?
* Do you rely on locking cases or other security packaging?
* Are your video games shelved near a staffed service point to allow for closer supervision?
* Have you implemented any restrictions on circulation, such as limiting the number of checkouts or restricting certain patron profiles?
Any insights, strategies, or even lessons learned would be greatly appreciated as we explore options to better safeguard our collection.
Thank you in advance for your time and input!
