[Michlib-l] Ripping software

I don't think a public institution should be providing dedicated ripping software. 
	Providing software on your public computers that would allow transfer from one type of media to a different media or device would seem appropriate. 
I'm sorry to say that all of the programs I know of that can handle the transfers also allow ripping as an option.  Oops.

We have had a patron request that the library provide ripping software.  
Other than the possibility of copyright issues, does anyone else have any experience which you are willing to share?  How much staff time and supervision is involved?  Any recommendations on actual software?  Other concerns?
