Part-Time Youth Services Librarian II (Two Positions)

DATE:                                  December 14, 2015

POSITION:                         YDL - Youth Department Librarian II (.5 FTE, 20 hours per week)

NATURE OF WORK:
Under the direction of the Head of Youth Services or Michigan Avenue Branch Manager, fulfills typical duties which may include, but are not limited to:

*        Delivery of reference, information and reader's advisory services for library patrons of all ages.

*        Assists patrons in use of computers and other library technology.

*        Plans, promotes, implements and evaluates storytimes and other library programs.

*        Develops, maintains and promotes library collections.

*        Serves on library-wide committees and participates in school outreach activities.

*        Contributes to the smooth operation of the Library.

QUALIFICATIONS:

*        Master's Degree in Library/Information Science from an ALA accredited institution.

*        Ability to design age-appropriate programs with an understanding of childhood development.

 *   Excellent communication, interpersonal and customer service skills.
 *   Ability to function in a professional manner, work independently, and use good judgment.
 *   Enthusiastic, positive team player.
 *   Previous successful public library experience desired.

*        Experience working with diverse populations.

*        Knowledge of computers, Internet and emerging technologies.

*        Strong desire to engage children birth-18, their parents, caregivers and teachers.

*        Knowledge of children's literature, information resources, and early literacy concepts.

*        Basic understanding of issues facing children and teens.


HOURS:
Part-time, 20 hours per week (including regularly scheduled evenings and weekends).

SALARY/BENEFITS:
                                      Hourly wage starting at $18.63.  Pro-rated paid time off and paid holidays.  Employer paid retirement contribution after one year of service. This position is part of the AFSCME union bargaining unit.
