This conference celebrates all aspects of Michigan's history and offers a
close-up look at the heritage of the host area. Come to enjoy keynotes,
breakout sessions, workshops, tours, the President's Reception, the State
History Awards Banquet, the Closing Banquet, and networking opportunities
with other attendees and exhibitors!

 

The 142nd Annual Meeting and State History Conference will be held in
Alpena, September 23-25, 2016. The main sessions of the conference will take
place at Alpena Community College, and other events will be held at exciting
venues throughout the city, including the Besser Museum for Northeast
Michigan.

 

The State History Awards will also be presented during the conference. Each
year, the Historical Society of Michigan presents a State History Award to
those individuals and organizations that have made outstanding contributions
to the appreciation and understanding of Michigan history.

The Historical Society of Michigan is our state's oldest cultural
organization, founded in 1828 by territorial governor Lewis Cass and
explorer Henry Schoolcraft. A nongovernmental nonprofit, the Society focuses
on publications, conferences, education, awards and recognition programming,
and support for local history organizations to preserve and promote
Michigan's rich history.

Homefront in War I, Outlaws in NE Michigan, The 11th-Century Naub-Cow-Zo-Win
Shale Discs, Michigan's Inland Waterway, and many more.

 

4 tours, including the Maritime Heritage Center & Glass-Bottom Boat, World
Center for Concrete Tech & Beer Company, and Leer Church Museum & Sinkhole
Exploration.
