Hello All,



Here is the flyer for our two upcoming Continuing Ed workshops  on Friday, September 16 called "Learn Tips and Tricks using the Dewey Decimal System."



As most of you deal daily with Dewey - I'll give you a little more detail so that you can see how this may still help you improve your skills, even if you've been working in libraries for a few years now.



The morning session "Finding Items Using Dewey" is aimed at any staff member who works with patrons to find books on a certain subject.  Many times a subject is located in more than one Dewey number - and you'll learn some tips on finding all aspects of a certain topic!  This would be great especially for new employees or those who always have a nagging feeling that they are missing something!



The afternoon session "Assigning Call Numbers Using Dewey" is a general overview of how to assign a call number and will touch on the most often used subdivisions and tables.  This would be great for folks who have been thrown into cataloging with no specific coursework behind it - but also those who just wonder why do certain numbers seem to be always tacked on to others?



Both of these sessions are taught by experienced catalogers: Susan Kroes (Hackley Public Library) and Jeri Walsh-Allis (Herrick District Library.



Registration is open today.  You have the option of indicating whether you would like to purchase a $10 boxed lunch that will be served in between sessions.    Feel free to purchase the lunch whether you sign up for just one of the sessions - or both.
