The Board of Trustees for the Harrison Township Public Library (MI) is inviting applications for the position of Full Time Library Director. The Board is seeking a progressive, collaborative team-builder, who is an experienced, dynamic, and committed professional.
The Harrison Township Public Library serves a population of nearly 25,000 (Class IV) with a budget of just over $415,000. The library is located within a waterfront community near recreational amenities, within a strong school district, and takes pride in our customer-oriented friendly staff. The recently funded library provides a unique opportunity for the creative individual to continue expanding on the hard work of our devoted volunteers.
Job Description
Human Resources• Recommends and administers personnel policies.• Recommends, schedules, evaluates, promotes, and disciplines employed staff.• Defines expectations for staff performance and sets goals for service and programming; promotes high staff morale.• Conducts staff training and professional development.• Maintains effective relationships with library staff, library volunteers, community leaders, public officials, professional groups and the general public.
Governance and Administration• Formulates, maintains, and implements library policies and procedures.• Administers all library contracts and monitors compliance.• Manages the library’s electronic presence, including the library website and social media.• Serves as a resource and provides administrative support to the Library Board; attends monthly board meetings, makes monthly reports, and participates in Board committee work as necessary.• Understands and monitors local, state, and national regulations and statutes affecting the library and library personnel.• Serves as a liaison to other area libraries and library organizations.• Develops long-term goals, objectives, actions, and policies to support the mission of the library.• Oversees preparation of an annual budget, presenting it to the Board for approval, and monitors expenditures.• Seeks supplemental funding opportunities.

Service• Plans, organizes, coordinates, and directs a balanced program of library services to meet the immediate and long-range goals of the library and the community. Collection Development• Oversees the development of library collections to ensure that the library provides the most up-to-date quality materials that meet the needs of the community.
Technology• Participates in the planning and organization of technical and computer services for the library.• Maintains knowledge of new developments in the library profession, including technological advances and trends that affect the library.
Facilities and Equipment• Manages the daily operations of the library including maintenance of the library building, grounds, and equipment.
Public Relations• Represents the library at appropriate events in order to build relationships, promote library services, and strengthen the presence of the library in the community.• Attends library board meetings, township meetings, and other meetings representing the library.• Publicizes library services through community presentations and lectures, news releases and bulletins, and by advertising library programs of public interest.
Position requirements
Education: Master’s degree in library science or library and information science from a program accredited by the American Library Association.
Experience:  Five years of increasingly responsible experience in professional library position, with at least four years in administration or supervision in a public library preferred.
License or Certificate: Level I Professional Librarian Certificate issued by the Library of Michigan.
Professional Compensation: Full-time base salary range is $50,000-$60,000 dependingon experience and qualifications. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate with others in person, on the telephone, and through electronic communications. The employee is frequently required to review and produce written and computerized documents. The employee is frequently required to access and retrieve books, periodicals and other materials that vary in weight, size and shape and may be located at heights ranging from floor level to over-head level. The employee is frequently required to access various locations within the library and attend meetings in locations away from the building. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items of light or moderate weight.While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in a public library setting. The noise level in the work environment is not always quiet.
