"A Teen Walks Into the Library" course

Our friends at the Colorado State Library have created A Teen Walks Into the Library, a brand new asynchronous training module for front-line staff, especially those new to serving teens or without any formal training. In this self-directed course, learners will gain a beginning-level understanding of working with teens in the library setting.

Teen Read Week

The Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) announces the 2018 Teen Read Week Site and Grant. This year's theme is "It's Written in the Stars...READ." Join the site at http://teenreadweek.ning.com/ for resources and updates. Thanks to the Dollar General Literacy Foundation, YALSA is offering ten $1000 grants to libraries for their #TRW18 programs. Digital Media List

The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) announces the first-ever Notable Children's Digital Media List. This is the latest addition to ALSC's Children's Notable Lists. Formerly Great Websites, this list has been changed to highlight the shift in media focus and include notable apps. Future lists will include a diverse array of digital media for children up to age 14, including websites and video streaming. Of interest: KSU iSchool professor Marianne Martens served as co-chair of the 2018 Notable Children's Digital Media Committee.  Here is the inaugural Notable Children's Digital Media list:

Summer Reading 2019 & Beyond!

2019's slogan is "A Universe of Stories," and we have some very exciting programming (and training) coming down the line from StarNet and NASA.  Stay tuned for details.  We got a sneak peek at Leeza Hernandez's art for 2019 and it is pretty darn awesome!!!

According to Monday's blog post<http://www.alsc.ala.org/blog/2018/04/something-new-for-nlld/>, Public Awareness Committee has a* new tool<http://www.ala.org/everyday-advocacy/public-awareness-committee-information-sheet>* for NLLD and beyond.  This resource forwards ALSC Strategic Plan<http://www.ala.org/alsc/aboutalsc/stratplan> to champion the value of library service to children and includes data about the number of public libraries and positive perception of library programming.
