There's still space available for library staff to attend the NASA @ My Library workshop! We'll be going over the activities in the kit, learning additional space STEM activities and how to adapt them for different age groups/family programming. Also, we'll take a look at how to use telescopes (psst! We might be getting a couple for circulation come this Fall...).
See registration details & agenda below.

Subject: [Michlib-l] Registration OPEN: NASA @ My Library workshops
NASA @ My Library STEM Workshops<https://libraryofmichigan.z2systems.com/np/clients/libraryofmichigan/eventList.jsp>
Laurie Bone, Senior Curator of Programs at Sloan Museum and Longway Planetarium, will be providing a hands-on workshop for public library staff. These STEM workshops will cover the following content:
* Overview of relevant astronomy terms and concepts
* Strategies for effective deliver of STEM based activities for kids of all ages (children, teen, adults, families)
* Ideas for Astronomy activities that librarians can use while developing their program plan
* Materials to support at least one of the activities will be provided for each library. (1 per library in attendance)
Materials will be provided for each participant to do the activities. This provides an opportunity for the librarians to practice doing the activity, have conversation with the group to identify ways to expand or customize the activity to better fit individual needs, and will provide each participant with a sample project for use in programming. NASA Facilitation kits will be available in the near feature from LM for libraries to borrow. If the workshop nearest you is full, you can either join the waitlist or attend at a different location. Cost is $25/person and we have a strict cap on attendance & do expect the majority of these workshops to fill-up. If you are unable to attend after registering, please contact Mary Anne Smith ASAP at 517-373-1580 or SmithM99 at michigan.gov<mailto:SmithM99 at michigan.gov> to cancel and allow someone from the waitlist to attend.

STEM In Libraries<https://www.starnetlibraries.org/stem-in-libraries/> - StarNet offers resources & STEM activities for libraries.
Facilitation Kits - LM is awaiting the go-ahead to begin circulation of NASA @ My Library program facilitation kits on KitKeeper. As soon as we have the circulation set-up I will be posting an announcement with directions on how to reserve a kit.
The project is led by the National Center for Interactive learning (NCIL) at the Space Science Institute (SSI) in partnership with the American Library Association (ALA) Public Programs Office, the Pacific Science Center, Cornerstones of Science and the Education Development Center. Additional support for this project comes from NASA's Science Mission Directorate (SMD) and made possible in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS).
