Longlist for 2019 Andrew Carnegie Medals for Excellence in Fiction and Nonfiction announced

A total of 47 books (25 fiction, 22 nonfiction) has been selected for the longlist for the 2019 Andrew Carnegie Medals for Excellence in Fiction and Nonfiction.

The six-title shortlist—three each for the fiction and nonfiction medals—will be chosen from longlist titles and announced on Oct. 24, 2018. The two medal winners will be announced by 2019 selection committee Chair Annie Bostrom at the Reference and User Services Association’s Book and Media Awards (BMAs) event at the American Library Association (ALA) Midwinter Meeting from 5 -7 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 27, in Seattle.

JCLC honors outstanding individuals at 2018 conference

The third National Joint Conference of Librarians of Color (JCLC), held recently at the Albuquerque Convention Center in New Mexico, celebrated the achievements of individuals from each of the American Library Association's ethnic affiliate associations.

PLA unveils new leadership model, seeks applicants for next Leadership Academy

The Public Library Association (PLA) has announced a new model for its Leadership Development Initiative. Developed by 21 select library leaders, the PLA Leadership Model describes the work, methods and core values of leadership in a public library context. In alignment with the Association’s strategic goals of Transformation and Leadership, this model advances public libraries’ shift from an organizational focus to a community focus and supports leadership that reflects the needs of the community.
