Michigan History Magazine Recognized For The Second Year In A Row
As National Finalist In Coveted Awards Program
LANSING, Mich.- Michigan History magazine, published by the Historical
Society of Michigan, has been named a national finalist for this year's
Folio: Eddie & Ozzie Awards, a prestigious publishing awards program, for
the second year in a row. The annual program recognizes the very best in
editorial and design and is the most comprehensive of its kind in the
industry.
The March/April 2019 issue of Michigan History has been named one of two
finalists for a "Full Issue" Eddie Award in the category of "City &
Regional-Midwest." The issue quickly became a favorite among readers,
featuring a story on Ford Motor Company's revitalization through the
invention of the 1949 Ford; the history of Michigan's monarch, Jesse Strang;
and several other stories, including the Jesuit mission at Mackinac,
notorious women in Michigan's history, funeral homes owned by African
Americans through the years, and the lesser-known history of Michigan
businessman John E. Fetzer.
The winners and honorable mentions of the coveted Folio: Eddie & Ozzie
Awards will be celebrated at an awards gala on Wednesday, October 30, 2019,
during The Folio: Show in New York City.
"The Eddie & Ozzie Awards recognize the pillars of magazine and digital
publishing-outstanding journalism and content, photography, design, and the
extremely talented people who produce it," said Caysey Welton, content
director at Folio:. "Year after year the entries continue to impress all of
us here at Folio:."
First published in 1917, Michigan History magazine has celebrated the
history of Michigan for over one hundred years. This year's issues have
featured a range of historical subjects, including Michigan's connections to
Apollo11, women's suffrage, World War II D-Day landing craft,
African-American pioneers and the car that saved Ford Motor Company in 1949.
"We are so honored to be named a finalist for the second year in a row,"
Nancy Feldbush, editor in chief at the Historical Society of Michigan,
commented. "Michigan History magazine seeks to share the rich history and
heritage of all Michigan's people with as many readers as possible in the
Great Lakes State, across the nation and throughout the world."
The Historical Society of Michigan, publisher of Michigan History and
Chronicle magazines, is the state's oldest cultural organization, founded in
1828 by territorial governor Lewis Cass and explorer Henry Schoolcraft. A
nongovernmental nonprofit, the Society focuses on publications, conferences,
education, awards and recognition programming, and support for local history
organizations to preserve and promote Michigan's rich history.
