Library Director- Medina County (OH) District Library

The Medina County District Library<https://www.mcdl.info/> Board of Trustees seeks an experienced and successful collaborator to provide outstanding, innovative services that will enrich the lives of community members, continue the Library's successes and further enhance the Library's stellar reputation. The seven-member, governing board oversees six locations (featuring four galleries able to display the work of talented artists) and a bookmobile providing services and programs to 145,137 residents with approximately 200 staff.  Circulating 2.8 million items in 2018, the Library partnered to provide snacks to hungry kids after school and ran an after-school cooking club.  MCDL also won the Ohio Library Council's Innovation Award for opening the County's only GED testing site.  Supported by a $10.6 million annual operating budget, funding sources include a 10-year operating levy (expiring in 2027), the Public Library Fund (state of OH), and a supportive Friends of the Library group. Key opportunities for the next Director include a new strategic planning process and upcoming union negotiations.  Currently, the Library is renovating the Medina Library to include an expanded genealogical research center and a maker space for students and entrepreneurs. It is slated for completion December 2019.

Medina County<https://www.medinaco.org/> is located in north central Ohio and offers many recreational, entertainment, and cultural amenities. The area is growing quickly because of its excellent school systems, low cost of living, and varied employment opportunities and the City of Medina has been identified by Ohio Magazine as "Best Hometown" for 2018-2019.  Medina County offers both suburban and rural areas with many new housing developments, farmhouses, and Victorian style homes that provide options for those who wish to live here. The County's outstanding park system includes over 18 parks and 40 miles of trails, providing hours of hiking and recreation.  Bike Medina County is a group that seeks to encourage more bicycle use as transportation and recreation and has created routes that connect cities, townships, and villages. Year round, there are activities and events to enjoy throughout the County that reflect rich traditions, values, and local history.  In addition to local attractions, there is also easy access to larger cities such as Cleveland and Akron, and recreational areas such as the Cleveland Metroparks Hinckley Reservation, The Cuyahoga Valley National Park, and Lake Erie. Responsibilities. Responsibilities include: Managing and coordinating day to day operations of the Medina County District Library; fiscal responsibility in coordination with the Library's fiscal officer; supervising the Director's team and indirectly supervising all library personnel; representing the Library at community functions and events; representing the Library to the media; providing leadership in planning for the future of the Library; and overseeing facilities, construction or renovation projects. Qualifications.  A Master's degree in library science from an ALA accredited library program with a minimum of five years public library experience with four years of progressive supervisory, management and financial experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.  Previous successful experience working with a governing board is highly desirable.

Compensation. The position offers a hiring salary range of $105,000-$130,000 (dependent upon experience and qualifications) and an attractive benefits package.
