Upcoming Workshop

Time to Plan and Network for 2020 SRP!
It'll be summer program planning time before we know it! Why not make it easier on yourself this year, and come to our Imagine Your Story workshop? You'll hear updates on all the changes with CSLP, grant opportunities, work with nationally known storyteller Will Stuck<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s8bkDpGgniw> on how to get the most from programming (youth & teens), decorating, and networking with your fellow librarians across the state. Later in the day you'll have the chance to experience virtually reality and learn from NMU Professor Kevin McDonough on your different VR options and brainstorm with others on how to offer programming and outreach around VR.

Grants

The Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) is accepting grant applications for Accelerating Promising Practices for Small Libraries (APP). The deadline to apply is December 2, 2019.

APP is a special initiative of the National Leadership Grants for Libraries Program. The goals of this initiative are to support projects that strengthen the ability of small and/or rural libraries and archives to serve their communities and to build capacity through participation in a community of practice. IMLS invites applications that focus on community memory, digital inclusion, or transforming K-12 school library practice, and are clearly linked to the library's broader community needs.

This grant opportunity is designed for small and/or rural libraries and archives, and applicants should consider how their organization might be a good fit. There are a number of ways to be "small," and attributes of "small" libraries or archives could include:

  *   number of staff members and volunteers;

  *   operating budget and sources of revenue;

  *   size of the collection and range of services provided;

  *   size of facility and property;

  * types, numbers, and geographic distribution of audiences served; and size relative to other organizations of the same discipline or within the same geographic region.

For more details, please read the notice of funding opportunity: https://www.imls.gov/sites/default/files/fy20-ols-app-nofo.pdf.
