Collaborative Summer Library Program
The 2020 Collaborative Summer Library Program (CSLP) End-of-Summer Survey is open and ready for your input!
The 2020 CSLP End-of-Summer Survey is now open through Friday, September 25, 2020: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdqwRQuxtvf1yrjDP9Wm9u3iTEpMuL79vezpvkD-PFtxQr2dw/viewform?usp=sf_link<https://gcc01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fdocs.google.com%2Fforms%2Fd%2Fe%2F1FAIpQLSdqwRQuxtvf1yrjDP9Wm9u3iTEpMuL79vezpvkD-PFtxQr2dw%2Fviewform%3Fusp%3Dsf_link&data=02%7C01%7Clancasterc5%40michigan.gov%7Ce1243a535b174a28c21d08d83330baf5%7Cd5fb7087377742ad966a892ef47225d1%7C0%7C0%7C637315632027661210&sdata=Em%2Bl44G1NWn%2FDBBED%2BokWtG6ZoCHwL60fVan2M4YoY8%3D&reserved=0>.
The survey covers three age groups, Children's (0-11), Teens (12-18), and Adults (19+) [age categories as defined by the Institute of Museum and Library Services]. You may designate someone in your library to complete the whole survey, or feel free to have different department leaders complete their sections separately. Libraries are listed by District, not branch. For CSLP, you may combine your virtual views as attendance - this is different than the standards are for annual reports<https://gcc01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.michigan.gov%2Fdocuments%2Flibraryofmichigan%2FLM_2020_Annual_Report_Changes_685687_7.pdf&data=02%7C01%7CLancasterC5%40michigan.gov%7C08d6088f57fb4ed46ca008d8438aab28%7Cd5fb7087377742ad966a892ef47225d1%7C0%7C1%7C637333610149070544&sdata=6SmkPiglRyoFhvSVBnbe8f2Z8IT6eMcj9BU6ceOVxhg%3D&reserved=0>, so please be advised.

In October 2017, the Ypsilanti District Library launched TALK: Text and Learn for Kindergarten, an early literacy text messaging service, with LSTA grant funding. With the support of community partners, the successful project reached over 1,000 families across Washtenaw County via text, offering activities parents could do with children 5 and under to prepare them for school and beyond. Find out more about this pilot project that may become available to libraries statewide in 2021. The webinar link will be emailed to registered attendees the day before the event. This webinar will be recorded and shared with registrants. It is brought to you by the Library of Michigan and supported in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services.

In the News...
EPIC released a policy brief<https://epicedpolicy.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/RBG3-COVID-Survey-Policy-Brief.pdf> last week on how Michigan educators responded to the suspension of face-to-face instruction due to COVID-19. K-8 teachers and principals reported that students returning to school behind in literacy was one of their greatest concerns<https://msutoday.msu.edu/news/2020/report-what-us-policymakers-can-learn-from-michigan-educators/> about the impact of the pandemic.
Legislature approved a "return to learn" plan<https://www.michiganadvance.com/blog/gov-signs-bipartisan-school-reopening-plan/> and Gov. Whitmer signed it. Among other things, the legislation states that student testing will continue in the form of benchmark assessments in fall and spring. While the state is still seeking federal waivers for standardized tests for 2020-21, these benchmark assessments will be used to gauge students' achievement levels and determine any learning loss due to COVID-19.
