An exciting opportunity to take a well-respected library to the next step
in providing outstanding service as the result of the current Director’s
relocation.  The Board of Trustees of the Allegan District Library seeks a
visionary leader who will continue the tradition of a positive, collegial
culture to become the Library’s next Director.  The Allegan District
Library is an independent governing unit, serving a patron population of
over 17,000 with an operating budget of $1.1M and a staff of 4-FTEs (2 with
MLIS degrees) and 10-PTE.  The library has just undergone a spectacular
Renovation and Improvement Project that added 12K square feet of floor
space on three different levels.  Included in the project were technology

Allegan, located in southwest Michigan, is a charming community with an
unbeatable combination of historic atmosphere, and a civic-minded approach
to life.  The renovated downtown with a riverfront boardwalk, zip-line,

small town ambiance.  Comfortable driving distances to Kalamazoo, Holland,

*The position requires a Master’s degree* in library science or library and
information science from a program accredited by the American Library
Association *and* a minimum of four (4) years post-Master degree experience
in a professional public library position, of which at least two (2) years
have been in a position of administration and supervision in a public
library.

*The successful candidate will have* a thorough knowledge of all facets of
public library service; an enthusiasm for and understanding of small-town
librarianship; the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects;
excellent communication skills; strong financial management abilities; the
ability to work effectively with other governmental entities, civic and
community groups, and the general public; and the ability to address
challenges in a collaborative and creative manner.  Familiarity with
district library governance and knowledge of Michigan library law would be
a plus.

*Compensation:*  From $60,000, dependent on experience and educational
qualifications.  Excellent benefit package.
