Job Posting: Computer Systems Technician (Full Time/40 hours per week)

The Ypsilanti District Library seeks an enthusiastic and experienced Computer Systems Technician with a strong commitment to public service excellence to join our team.



Nature of Work/Responsibilities: Under the supervision of the Technology Manager, the Computer Systems Technician performs routine tasks to support the technology needs of staff and patrons at all YDL facilities.  Will work with PCs, tablets, printers, library automation, wi-fi, RFID, self-check, copier/faxes, A/V equipment, UPS systems, payment solutions, telephones and server room/data closet management.  Duties include:

*        Install and maintain upgrades for computer software, hardware, and other peripheral equipment.

*        Provide end user help desk support for both staff and patrons.  Assists staff in routine troubleshooting.

*        Assist with server maintenance, including backups, updates, and anti-virus software.

*        Provide secondary support to Technology Manager to monitor, analyze, and respond to system events and error logs as well as monitoring and troubleshooting network connectivity.

*        Develop and maintain inventory database for all Library equipment.

*        Develop documentation as needed. May write and revise user training manuals and procedures.

*        Evaluate technology to determine need for upgrades and new products, including hardware, software, and appropriate licensing and network agreements.

*        Collect, evaluate, and report on usage statistics and trends.

*        Effectively communicate technology-related problems and resolutions.


Qualifications and Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: High School diploma or equivalent required.  Associate's degree in computer-related field preferred.

*        Working knowledge of wireless networks (laptop wireless settings)

*        Working knowledge of Active Directory and Group Policy

*        Working knowledge of current MS operating systems and MS Office suites

*        Understanding of basic networking (TCIP/IP, DNS, DHCP)

*        Strong hardware troubleshooting skills and familiarity with remote support

*        Knowledge of antivirus software and malware remediation

*        Familiarity with imaging solutions

*        Web development skills desirable, working knowledge of WordPress a plus

*        Ability to maintain confidentiality

*        Ability to organize, prioritize, and coordinate multiple tasks

*        Ability to function in a professional manner, work independently, and use good judgment

*        Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends

*        Excellent communication and organizational skills

*        Valid driver's license required

Salary/ Benefits:        $34,840 annual salary ($16.75/hr), and a comprehensive benefits package including generous paid time off, twelve paid holidays, family coverage for health, vision, and dental insurance, an employer contribution to retirement and a voluntary 457 plan.
