EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR - Dayton Metro Library (OH)

The Board of Trustees of the Dayton Metro Library<http://www.daytonmetrolibrary.org/> (OH) seeks a team-oriented, forward-thinking community leader who is committed to creating and supporting an innovative and progressive library system that is a welcoming environment to all.   Leading a staff of 337 FTE supporting 18 locations and a $30+ million annual budget, the Library provides excellent customer service vital to its 467,000+ constituents. Library support comes from a 2009 continuous 1.75 mill operating levy and the Ohio Public Library Fund.  Reporting to the seven-member appointed governing Board of Trustees, the successful candidate will effectively collaborate with the Board, the staff, the Friends of the Library, Foundation, and external partners to maintain and further develop key partnerships in the community and offer innovative programs and services to its citizens. Key opportunities include completion of the $187 million Libraries for a Smarter Future facilities improvement plan and upcoming bargaining unit negotiations.

Responsibilities. The Executive Director plans and directs the Dayton Metro Library in accordance with the Mission, Goals and Strategies established by the Board of Library Trustees;  formulates effective strategies and presents policy recommendations; has overall responsibility for the organization's budget and financial planning process; and serves with the Fiscal Officer to manage all financial and legal responsibilities on behalf of the Library. Qualifications. A Master's Degree in Library/Information Science from an ALA-accredited program and a comprehensive knowledge of public library operations normally acquired through a minimum of five to seven years of management experience in a complex library or nonprofit organization including a minimum of three years supervisory experience. Essential skills include: excellent internal and external communication skills that inspire and motivate; the ability to develop and implement a shared vision of innovative library service; skill in building and maintaining effective relationships with the Library Board, staff, Friends and Foundation, local officials, and community leaders; experience in strategic visioning and planning; sound fiscal management; and successful experience implementing services and programs. Proven experience reporting to a policy-making board and success in collaborating with community partners are highly desirable.

Compensation. The hiring salary range is $150,000 - $200,000 with an excellent benefits package.
