In October 2017, the Ypsilanti District Library launched TALK: Text and Learn for Kindergarten, an early literacy text messaging service, with LSTA grant funding. With the support of community partners, the successful project reached over 1,000 families across Washtenaw County via text, offering activities parents could do with children 5 and under to prepare them for school and beyond. Find out more about this pilot project that may become available to libraries statewide in 2021. The webinar link will be emailed to registered attendees the day before the event. This webinar will be recorded and shared with registrants. It is brought to you by the Library of Michigan and supported in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services.

Update: Indigenous Peoples' History of the US for Young People
Last summer, Jean Mendoza and I created a companion website for An Indigenous Peoples' History of the US for Young People. This summer we're adding pages to it. The pages are about things we'd like to do if we have the opportunity to do a second edition. We added two in the last couple of weeks that reflect reading we've been doing since June.
The first one is called "Slavery and Treaties" and is here: https://iph4yp.blogspot.com/p/possible-revisions-slavery-and-early.html. The second one is called "Instilling Fear, Past and Present" and is here: https://iph4yp.blogspot.com/p/possible-revisions-instilling-fear-past.html. We've also added two ways to subscribe to the companion website and invite you to do that! Those two options are on the left margin, just above the book cover for IPH4YP. We created the companion website as a way to keep track of things about the book. We hope you'll take a look, and if you or teachers in your school (or the school your children attend) are using IPH4YP, make sure you click on the Teachers Guide tab! There are several free, downloadable lesson plans and a guide to the entire book.
We welcome your feedback on the book, the companion website, and what we offer. Contact dreese.nambe at gmail.com<mailto:dreese.nambe at gmail.com>
