ADULT SERVICES AND REFERENCE LIBRARIAN 

HENIKA DISTRICT LIBRARY

Does a small town atmosphere where everyone greets each other by name sound homey and inviting to you? If you answered yes to these questions, Henika District Library is looking for you! 




SCHEDULE: Full time, 9:30 am - 6:00 pm Monday-Thursday and 9:30 am - 4:00 pm Friday, including one Saturday per month from 9:30 am - 2:00 pm. 

STARTING SALARY: $35,000, DOE 

BENEFITS: Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan health and dental insurance, MERS defined benefit retirement plan, and generous PTO policy 

REPORTS TO: Director 

SUPERVISES: None 




DUTIES: 

Adult Services 

    * Purchases materials for the adult and general collections including Fiction, Nonfiction, DVDs, and Audio Books. 
    * Maintains the adult and general collections, including running reports for items needing weeded or replaced. 
    * Creates monthly displays of materials from the adult collections. 
    * Plans adult programming events. 
    * Creates advertising for adult programming events, including Canva images and Facebook posts. 
    * Liaison with the Wayland Main Street DDA Board and Wayland Area Chamber of Commerce to promote library programming, network with community stakeholders, and plan joint events. 
    * Compiles programming statistics for monthly board meetings. Creates an Adult Services Report for monthly board meetings. 
    * Assists in maintaining the library website. 



Reference 

    * Provides reader’s advisory services, library information, and directional information to patrons in person, by email, over the telephone, or through social media chat services. 
    * Assists patrons with computer issues and using the printer/fax machine/scanner. 
    * Provides information to patrons regarding the library’s policies and procedures. Refers issues to management as appropriate. 
    * Retrieves materials requested and routes materials appropriately for patrons in person or through inter-library loan requests. 



General 

    * Attends conferences and continuing education workshops relevant to the position. 
    * Serves the public at the Circulation Desk by checking in and out library materials and issuing/updating library cards. 
    * Other duties as assigned by director. 





QUALIFICATIONS: 

    * Bachelor’s degree required, MLIS preferred. 
    * Experience working in a library preferred. 



REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE: 

    * The person in this position must: 
    * Possess basic technology skills necessary to complete job responsibilities or the ability and willingness to learn those skills. These include, but are not limited to, familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel, Google Drive and Calendar, email, and Canva. 
    * Demonstrate familiarity with technology such as necessary to provide assistance to patrons. These include, but are not limited to, Microsoft Office, the internet, copier and fax machine, telephone, and mobile devices. 
    * Demonstrate basic mathematical skills necessary for routine calculations. 
    * Demonstrate knowledge of policies and procedures and apply them consistently. 



REQUIRED SKILLS : 

    * Interpersonal and communication skills for interaction with staff and patrons in an effective and courteous manner. 
    * Ability to push/pull fully loaded book carts, retrieve or place materials above shoulder or below knee level, and transport materials and delivery bags weighing up to 40 pounds. 
    * Available transportation for travel to workshops and library-related meetings.
