The MacDonald Public Library seeks a driven, creative *Adult Services
Librarian* to serve the picturesque waterfront community of New Baltimore,
MI.
Job Classification: Full Time, salaried, exempt from overtime
Salary: Starting at $40,000 annually, negotiable, commensurate with
experience and education

Hours: 40 hours per week, including evenings and weekends.
Reports to: Library Director

Duties
-
Provides top notch customer service to patrons of all ages
-
Staffs the adult reference desk in a friendly, approachable manner,
providing reference and reader’s advisory services to patrons in person,
over the phone, and via email
-
Assists patrons with public computer use, printing, copying, and faxing
-
Educates the public on the use of the library website, databases, and
e-resources
-
Plans and presents programming for adults, including book clubs
-
Connects the library to the community via outreach
-
Liaises with external community organizations and the Friends of the
MacDonald Public Library
-
Selects and maintains assigned library collections, working within a
specified budget
-
Oversees the maintenance and content of the library website
-
Greets and assists patrons through the library and enforces library
policies
-
Stays up to date on current and emerging trends in library services and
other industries
-
Recommends new or modified library services, programs, procedures, or
collections to administration as appropriate
-
Collaborates with the Youth Services staff to plan and present family
and all-ages programs and services
-
Serves as librarian in charge in the absence of administration
-
Other duties and special projects as assigned
Required Skills and Qualifications
-
Master’s Degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited institution
(or similar); candidates currently enrolled in a master’s degree program
will be considered
-
One year of customer service experience
-
Demonstrated proficiency in intermediate to advanced computer use, such
as content management or systems administration
-
Knowledge of current and emerging trends in library service, technology,
and customer service
-
Understanding of library automation systems and equipment
-
Proficiency in providing reference services to all ages, and strong
understanding of databases and other electronic library resources
-
Dedication to continuing professional development and improvement
-
Strong interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills
-
Excellent ability to communicate verbally and in writing
-
Comfortable working independently under minimal supervision and takes
initiative to provide the best possible service to the public
-
Ability to work in a team environment, be flexible, think creatively,
and wear multiple hats
Preferred Skills and Qualifications
-
Experience working in a public library
-
Experience with library programming, outreach, and/or collection
development
-
Solid understanding of social media and marketing as it pertains to
library services
-
Basic graphic design
-
Enthusiasm for working with seniors

Demonstrated leadership ability
