[Michlib-l] request for recommendations: catalog software for small school library

I know I've seen discussions of catalog software for small libraries, but am evidently not coming up with useful search terms. Or at least not looking in the right months in the archive.

I've been asked to set up a cataloging system for a small school library. Cost is obviously an issue, but they are not looking for free software--they recognize that they will get a better and more robust product by spending some money. (As long as I identify software that is better and more robust.)

They have had about 2000 books donated from another school that closed. I haven't seen them yet, but it didn't sound like they had been cataloged. I should be seeing the books this Wednesday.

They expect that they will be able to scan books to start the cataloging. That will mean identifying software and hardware for scanning. I've started some searching, but would appreciate suggestions.

While there might be a computer that can be used for this, they are open to buying a basic desktop. There are no plans to network the catalog.

Any leads or suggestions will be appreciated.

Thanks,
Jennifer
