Greetings!

This morning the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) issued a press release (https://www.michigan.gov/coronavirus/0,9753,7-406-98163-572726--,00.html)   indicating that a public health advisory on facemasks would be issued in anticipation of the holiday season.  In addition, the advisory will offer guidance on mitigating risks during holiday events.

According to the release:

"MDHHS will issue a Public Health Advisory that recommends everyone over the age of 2 should wear a face mask at indoor gatherings regardless of their vaccination status. In addition, establishments should implement a policy to ensure that all persons entering or seeking services, including employees, wear a mask. This face mask advisory will remain effect until further notice. "

Note that the official advisory has not yet been issued and at this time we do not know the exact language and whether or how it will apply to public libraries. The information in the release below would suggest that the advisory is optional.

Libraries may wish to begin the discussion of how they may respond to this MDHHS advisory with respect to voluntary or mandatory employee masking.
Absent a masking requirement (which this advisory does not seem to be so far), a patron masking requirement should only be implemented after a discussion with the library's attorney.

More information will be forthcoming as the full advisory is released.
