Librarian 1 - Programming and Outreach Librarian - Full-time

The Public Libraries of Saginaw seeks a people-focused, collaborative and self-motivated professional for the position of Programming and Outreach Librarian.  The Programming and Outreach Librarian will coordinate the planning, implementation and promotion of library programs and outreach activities for all ages.  This person will work with the Library Director, Marketing Librarian and Branch Heads to lead the library's programming, outreach and public relations efforts.

Our ideal candidate will be a dynamic and innovative librarian who strives to provide equitable delivery of library services to all residents, including people without housing, ethnically diverse people, older adults, adult new and non-readers, incarcerated people, people with disabilities, LGBTQIA+ people and geographically underserved areas.


Essential/Primary Duties & Responsibilities:


*        Establish a clear vision and direction for programs and outreach, including adult and youth programs, as well as literacy programs

*        Oversee the design and implementation of a diverse offering of programs for all ages in order to encourage literacy, learning, community connections and enjoyment

*        Meet with branch heads and other staff who plan programs and outreach activities to create new opportunities and review current activities

*        Work with library staff to prepare displays, booklists and other suitable materials to support program topics.

*        Oversees the process for outcome-based planning and evaluation for effective programs and outreach

*        Work with staff to make classroom visits, attend school functions and coordinate the Summer Reading Program

*        Ride on the Bookmobile to provide reference, information and reader's advisory services to patrons

*        Produce marketing materials including web content, print materials, emails, print/digital signage, event calendars, multi-media material, etc., to promote library programs and outreach to the community

*        Collaborate with and represent the library within the community, with local area organizations, on library committees, and serves as a liaison to community agencies

*        Encourage, establish and maintain effective working relationships with the Library Director, coworkers, volunteers, other community agencies and the public.

*        Keep abreast of modern developments in library programming, adult services and youth services through research, continued education and professional growth.

*        Carry out the library's strategic goals and initiatives with the mission, vision and core values in mind

*        Assist at public service desks when necessary to ensure excellent service


Requirements
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and Experience

*        Requires a Master's Degree in Library of Information Science from an ALA accredited program

*        Library of Michigan Level 2 Library Staff Certification is required.

*        Knowledge of pre-school childhood development as it relates to reading readiness and related library programming

*        Knowledge of principles, practices and techniques of program planning, development, implementation and administration

*        Basic understanding of Google analytics, social media and digital marketing

*        Possess the ability to work independently and collaboratively

*        Direct and evaluate complex projects for accurate and efficient results

*        Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects, set priorities and communicate progress

*        Must work well under stress, be flexible and deal comfortably with change

*        Ability to contribute to a positive team environment

This position pays a salary of $47,947 - $60,416 in six annual steps.  Benefits include health insurance, life insurance, and pro-rated vacation, sick leave and personal business time.
