[Michlib-l] Muskegon Area District Library - New Director Announcement

Hi Everyone,

We are excited to share that our new Director, Ron Suszek, started at the Muskegon Area District Library on Monday, June 20th! He is not new to Michigan but has been out of the area for the past several years. Please help us welcome him back and congratulate him on his new role. I included the press release info below for more information.


New Library Director Selected at Muskegon Area District Library

MUSKEGON, MI, May 17, 2022 - The Board of Trustees of the Muskegon Area District Library is pleased to announce the selection of Ron L. Suszek, II as the new MADL Library Director. He will join MADL June 20, 2022.

Suszek has extensive experience working in public libraries, including a seventeen-year career in leadership positions. He has managed a wide range of services including public programming, technology, collection development and logistics.

Most recently, he served as Library Services Administrator with the San Antonio Public Library, (SAPL) in San Antonio, Texas. At SAPL, he worked to overhaul the digital experience for library users by developing services and collections to meet the needs of a growing and culturally diverse community of nearly two million. He was actively involved in San Antonio's digital inclusion network and worked to provide essential access to support digital literacy efforts in one of the nation's least connected cities. Prior to his five-year service with SAPL, he worked at Grace A. Dow Memorial Library in Midland, Michigan for ten years.

The selection of Mr. Suszek concludes a six-month nation-wide search and several Board Special Meetings to interview highly qualified candidates. "Mr. Suszek has extensive experience initiating and sustaining partnerships with community organizations and has been successful in raising stakeholders' awareness of the library, its employees, and services as well as the importance of funding and supporting its mission," says Doug Hughes, Chair, MADL Board of Trustees.
"I am excited to be a part of the Muskegon Area District Library, working with the dedicated people at MADL who serve the community in such meaningful and transformative ways," says Suszek. "Muskegon is such a diverse and unique community and the Library has so much potential to impact everyone in the community, helping everyone achieve success together. The amazing work that MADL has been doing to support the community is why I first started working in public libraries nearly twenty years ago."

Suszek holds a Master of Science Degree from the School of Information Sciences, at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a bachelor's degree from Hope College, Holland, Michigan. He is originally from northern Michigan, has lived and worked in west Michigan and Chicago.  He is an avid tennis player, runner, and cyclist.
