Library Director - Massillon Public Library
The Massillon Public Library (OH)<https://www.massillonlibrary.org/> Board of Trustees seeks an energetic and forward-thinking professional to serve as Library Director. From a historic Main Library that anchors an active downtown business district, the library has a long history of meaningful involvement with the community. The library serves the city of Massillon and, since the 1930s, the tight-knit villages of Brewster and Navarre which are located in the rural southwest area of the county. With an operating budget of over $3 million, the 69 employees (30 FTE) serve over 30,000 registered borrowers from the Main Library, two branches, and a bookmobile. Key initiatives for a new Director include creating and implementing a new strategic plan; discovering new ways of engaging the community with library services and resources; working within the challenges of maintaining an older Main Library; and correctly anticipating the needs of the community while developing staff skills to best meet those needs.
With a population of 32,000 in one of Ohio's most populous counties, the City of Massillon has deep roots and strong pride, some of which centers around the Massillon High School football team - the Tigers. A variety of public and private primary and secondary schools provide plenty of choice in education. The Massillon Museum, local historic homes, and the Lions Lincoln Theater support local cultural activities. Museums, music venues, and private and public colleges and universities in the Canton/Akron/Cleveland corridor provide an abundance of additional choices for arts and entertainment. With an extensive county park system and 10 state parks plus a national park within an easy drive of town, there are many recreational choices close by.
Responsibilities: The Library Director directs and oversees the overall operations of the Massillon Public Library, establishes a culture of mutual respect among staff, promotes excellent service to all patrons, and carries out the library's mission under the direction of the Board of Trustees and in accordance with library policies and the laws of the State of Ohio. The director represents and promotes the library in both the public and professional communities while providing a leadership role in education concerning the library's services, funding circumstances, and fund-raising needs, and provides leadership and direct supervision of the operations of library departments through nine department managers.
Qualifications: A bachelor's degree, a minimum of three years of experience working in a public library, and a minimum of three years of directly supervising staff are required. Supervisory experience in a library setting is preferred. Experience working with a governing board and/or levy campaign experience is desirable. Any equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
Compensation: The hiring salary range is $90,000 - $100,000 (with placement negotiable dependent on experience and qualifications) and an excellent fringe benefits package.
