Job Title: Archives Librarian 

Department: Archives 

Supervisor: Archives Manager 

Hiring Range: $56,599 - $65,494 

Union Position: Yes 

Benefits: Yes 

Hours: Full-Time, including some evening and/or weekend hours 

Opening: October 10, 2023 

Closing: 9pm on October 24, 2023 


Position Summary 

Under the direction of the Archives Manager, the Archives Librarian works with teams and staff throughout the organization to produce and develop content, events, partnerships, and collections that add value to the community we serve. The Archives Librarian also delivers customer service to library users via weekly shifts on public service desks throughout the library system and online reference. 


Position includes some evening and weekend hours. 


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following; other duties may be assigned: Minimum Qualifications include: 

    * Selects and maintains archival collections, including handling relationships with donors, the creation of metadata schema, and proper housing for preservation of materials. 
    * Provides a wide range of reference and recommendation services via both in-person and remote situations and online, utilizing print, A/V, and electronic resources. 
    * Develops and expands online content and products, including creation of new writing, images, audio, video, and web applications. 
    * Works with individuals and organizations to develop partnerships to document the history of the community, with particular focus on underrepresented groups. 
    * Serves on departmental and system-wide teams and delivers related action items on schedule. 
    * Works courteously and effectively with library patrons, library staff and the general public. 
    * Develops, plans, and implements programs focused on local history resources. 


Minimum Qualifications include: 

    * Master’s Degree in Information or Library Science from an ALA-accredited program. 
    * Eligibility for Michigan Librarian Professional Certificate. 
    * Strong Familiarity with historical and genealogical research tools and processes. 
    * Excellent customer service attitude. 
    * Experience digitizing documents and working with a content management system. 
    * Experience developing and managing partnerships in a library context. 
    * Experience selecting and evaluating materials for archival collections in a library context. 
    * Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 
    * Strong organization and planning skills. 
    * Ability to work successfully within a complex organizational structure. 
    * Open approach to library service. 

Preferred Qualifications include: 


    * Fluency in one or more non-English languages. 
    * Experience with art or craft techniques, or connections in the local art & craft communities. 
    * Experience with writing and editing. 
    * Demonstrated ability in working successfully with diverse audiences. 
    * Knowledge of current trends in public libraries. 
    * Creative problem solving. 
    * Successful and relevant public library experience.
