[Michlib-l] Policy on new Earned Sick Time Act (Paid Medical Leave Act)

Hello!

Please note that the Paid Leave and Minimum Wage changes due to be implemented in February can be very complex depending on:


  *   A library's existing relationship with its municipality (i.e. if the library actually is the legal employer of the library staff - which is the situation in many libraries),
  *   The library's current paid leave policies (do you have separate leave and sick policies or are they combined?,
  *   How large the library is (fewer than 10 employees or more than 10?).

and other factors.

One library's policy will not likely transfer to another.

Review samples but please run a finished policy by your legal counsel!

Also, as Val indicated, there are several bills in lame duck that would change these laws before February. So you may wish to hold off finalizing a policy until the end of the lame duck legislature on Dec. 20. In case the situation changes.
